Hard, irreducible abdominal mass in a toddler: what caused the abdominal radiographic findings?

BMJ Case Rep. 2025 Jun 27;18(6):e264878. doi: 10.1136/bcr-2025-264878.

Abstract

A toddler presents to the paediatric emergency department with a hard abdominal mass. Toddlers are known to insert foreign objects and non-food substances into their mouths, but occasionally this may not be immediately apparent when presented with a clinical scenario. In this case, we describe a unique presentation and unique abdominal radiographical images that highlight the importance of an investigatory approach to paediatric patients.
